1. Te Ao Māori

DESCRIPTION

Underpinning of the design kaupapa by indigenous Māori design concepts and inclusion of local purakau. Inclusion in the grounds of spaces that provide for leaning tikanga and kawa to encourage understanding and connection to mana whenua and Te Ao Māori.

PURPOSE AND EXPLANATION OF MECHANISM

  • To connect tamariki to mana whenua and Te Ao Māori   

  • As a setting for transfer of kawa (cultural practices) from both kaiako and members of our kids’ whānau and wider community

  •  To build belonging and allow tamariki to reference their own whakapapa

  • To provide opportunities for whānau to teach skills and tikanga around activities related to taonga species such as Kūmara, Pikopiko, and Mānuka

  • To foster collaboration

  • To provide opportunities to better connect whānau and community with the kura
